29 November 2007 The Trial Chamber has determined the start date of a trial for crimes committed in Bugojno during the war between the Army of BiH and the Croatian Defence Council.
The trial of Nisvet Gasal and Musajb Kukavica before the War Crimes Chamber of the Court of BiH will begin with the presentation of the Prosecution's introductory arguments on December 14, 2007.
The indictment, for which the indictees pleaded not guilty, was confirmed in September this year. Former Bosnian army members Gasal and Kukavica are being held responsible for the crimes committed in Bugojno during the armed conflict between the Army of BiH and the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) in 1993 and 1994.
The indictment alleges that Gasal was the manager of the detention camp located at "Iskra" football stadium in Bugojno, while Kukavica was the camp's chief of security.
About 300 detained Croats were held in "inhumane conditions" in the detention camp. They were deprived of food and medical aid, and they were forced to perform hard labour.
The two indictees are charged, as "superior and responsible persons", with having failed to undertake "the necessary measures to prevent or punish the perpetrators of the crimes against civilians in Bugojno".
The prosecution has announced that it will examine 43 witnesses and propose 666 pieces of material evidence in the course of the trial.
