The Defence of Alija Osmic, who is charged with crimes committed against Bosnian Croats from Bugojno, has completed its presentation of evidence after more than four months of witness examination and material evidence presentation.

As witness Vinko Zrno failed to appear in the courtroom, Alija Osmic’s Defence said it had completed the evidence presentation process. “We were not able to find him at his address. Considering the fact he is not particularly relevant to us, we give up on this witness. The Defence has no further evidence,” Kerim Celik, Defence attorney for the indictee, said.
Osmic, former member of the Military Police with the 307th Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, ABiH, is charged with participation and assistance in unlawful detention, murder, beating and forced labour of Bosnian Croats from the Bugojno area between 1993 and 1994.
At this hearing the Prosecution presented, as additional evidence, several lists of members of the Military Police Company with the Western Operational Group, which contained the indictee’s name among others.
In addition, the Prosecution presented documents about Croat detainees being taken away for examinations and the release of some of them from prisons. Some of those people are still considered missing.
The Defence objected to the relevance of these pieces of evidence, because, the Defence attorney argued, Osmic “is not charged with the disappearance of people”.
The State Prosecution announced it would examine one more witness, requesting that the Court grant the witness certain protective measures.
“In response to indictee Osmic’s testimony, the Prosecution would like to examine one more witness. We are asking the Court to grant the witness with protective measures. He can confront the indictee in the courtroom, but he does not want his statement to be published because of the work he performs and the community in which he lives,” Prosecutor Slavica Terzic said.
His testimony is planned for September 21.
