The trial of four indictees charged with genocide committed in Srebrenica has been postponed due to the absence of Prosecution witness Jovan Nikolic.
Nikolic failed to appear at the trial of Dusko Jevic, Mendeljev Djuric, Goran Markovic and Nedjo Ikonic, but he sent a medical certificate to the Court, also saying he had to be present at work, as school Director, on the first day of the new school year.
His testimony has been rescheduled for September 13, when witness Velomir Gajic will also be invited to testify.
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina has charged Jevic, Djuric, Markovic and Ikonic with having participated, in collaboration with other members of the Republika Srpska, RS, Army and police, in “a systematic joint criminal enterprise” with the aim of deporting women and children and killing men from Srebrenica from July 10 to 19, 1995.
The indictment alleges that Jevic was Commander of “Jahorina” Training Center with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, MUP RS, Djuric and Ikonic were Commanders of the First and Second Company with the Center and Markovic was Commander of the Second Squad with the First Company at the time.
Among other things, the four indictees are charged with participation in the shooting of more than 1,000 Srebrenica residents in “Kravica” Agricultural Cooperative warehouse, Bratunac municipality, on July 13 and 14, 1995.
Jovan Nikolic, who was Director of the United Cooperatives, to which Kravica belonged in July 1995, previously testified before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the trials of former policemen who are charged with the shooting of men in the warehouse.
Prosecutor Ibro Bulic said at this hearing that the investigation against Nikolic had been suspended.
