The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed an indictment against Sead Hakalovic, charging him with crimes against civilians committed in Konjic municipality.
The indictment, which has been filed with the State Court for confirmation, alleges that Hakalovic, a member of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the time, deprived one person of his life and wounded another person in Gostovici village on March 23, 1993.
The Prosecution contends that, "in the early morning hours" Hakalovic entered J.R.'s house and fired a magazine of bullets from an automatic rifle into Z.DJ.'s chest, "killing him immediately".
"When J.R. tried to run away, together with her two sons, Hakalovic fired several bullets at her legs when she was standing on the steps of her house, causing severe injuries to both lower legs," the State Prosecution alleges.
It is further alleged that after J.R. had been brought to a hospital in Konjic, Hakalovic unlawfully detained her adolescent sons in a house basement in Gostovici village.
The Prosecution contends that these crimes were committed during the armed conflict between the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Croatian Defence Council, HVO. It further contends that Hakalovic "acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War".
