12 March 2010 The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has confirmed an indictment against three former members of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina accused of participating in crimes against Croats in Trusina village in Herzegovina in April 1993.
Mensur Memic, known as Menta, and Dzevad Salcin, known as Struja, former members of the "Zulfikar" Special Purpose Squad with the General Command Headquarters of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Army, ARBiH, as well as Senad Hakalovic, a former member of the "Neretvica" 45th Mountain Brigade of the ARBiH, are charged with participation in "a planned and prepared" attack on Trusina village on April 16, 1993.
During the attack on Gaj hamlet, Trusina village, 18 civilians and four members of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, were killed, while four people, including two children, were wounded.
The indictment alleges that on that day Memic, Nedzad Hodzic, Rasema Handanovic, known as Zolja, and other members of the "Zulfikar" Squad participated in the shooting of HVO members in Gaj hamlet. The indictment further alleges that Nedzad Hodzic issued the order for the shooting.
The Prosecution contends that Salcin shot several HVO members who had previously surrendered, in Gaj hamlet. Hakalovic is accused of ordering, in collaboration with other members of "Zulfikar", a group of civilian HVO members who had previously surrendered, to stand in line several times, pointing a rifle at them and telling them he would "kill all of them", insulting them, and taking their money, jewelry and other valuables.
The Prosecution alleges that the three indictees committed crimes against civilians and Memic and Salcin also committed war crimes against prisoners-of-war.
The three indictees have been in custody since September 2009.
The State Prosecution suspects Zulfikar Alispago, known as Zuka, Nihad Bojadzic, Nedzad Hodzic, Jusuf Hadzalija, Edin Dzeko and Rasema Handanovic, known as Zolja, of the same crimes. Dzeko and Handanovic are reported to have been arrested in the US.
