26 February 2010 The retrial of Milos Stupar, who was sentenced by a first instance verdict for genocide committed in Srebrenica, is due to begin before the Appellate Chamber next week.
Stupar, former Commander of the Second Special Police Squad from Sekovici, was sentenced by a first instance verdict to 40 years in prison for participation in the murder of more than 1,000 men in Kravica Agricultural Cooperative on July 13, 1995. Upholding the Defence's appeal, the Appellate Chamber overturned the verdict and ordered a retrial.
At hearings scheduled for March 4 and 5 the Appellate Chamber will start listening to recordings of statements given by witnesses during the first instance trial.
On Thursday, March 4 the Appellate Chamber of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina is due to consider the appeals to the first instance verdict, by which Ante Kovac, former Commander of the Military Police Squad with the Vitez Brigade of the Croatian Defence Council, HVO, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for crimes committed in Vitez during 1993.
On Friday, March 5 the Defence of Ljubo Tomic and Krsto Josic are due to present their closing arguments at the trial of the former members of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, who are charged with having killed three civilians in Marhosi forest in Kozluk, Zvornik municipality, in June 1992.
Next week the trial is due to continue in the case of Radoje Lalovic and Soniboj Skiljevic, who are charged by the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina with crimes against detainees in Butmir Penal and Correctional Facility in Kula, near Sarajevo. New witnesses are due to testify for the Defence of the second indictee on March 3 and 4.
Nisvet Gasal, who is charged, together with Musajb Kukavica, Enes Handzic and Senad Dautovic, with crimes against Bosnian Croats from Bugojno, is due to continue his testimony on Wednesday, March 3.
Alija Osmic, a former member of the Military Police Squad with the 307th Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is also charged with crimes committed against Bosnian Croats, who were detained at various locations in Bugojno during 1993 and 1994. His trial is due to continue on March 4.
On Thursday, March 4 the trial is due to continue in the case of Sasa Zecevic, Radoslav Knezevic, Petar Civcic, Branko Topola and Marinko Ljepoja, who are charged with having participated in the murder of about 200 male civilians at Koricanske stijene on August 21, 1992.
On the same day new Prosecution witnesses are due to appear at the trials of Darko Dolic, a former HVO member, who is charged with crimes committed in Prozor municipality, and Zeljko Ivanovic, who is charged with genocide committed in Srebrenica in July 1995.
