Koricanske stijene: Search Order

12 February 2010  A protected Prosecution witness says he saw the four indictees at the location where about 200 men were separated from the rest of the convoy traveling from Prijedor to Travnik, adding that he found out later that the men were killed.

Answering questions from the Defence teams on the second day of his testimony, protected witness K3 said he saw indictees Sasa Zecevic, Radoslav Knezevic, Petar Civcic and Marinko Ljepoja on Mount Vlasic, "in the vicinity of the Ugar river" on August 21, 1992. He said they were standing by the vehicles while the civilians were separated from the convoy.

K3 began his testimony on February 4 this year, when he said that members of the Police Interventions Squad from Prijedor took part in separating and killing about 200 men at Koricanske stijene.

The State Prosecution charges Zecevic, Knezevic and Ljepoja, former members of the Interventions Squad with the Public Safety Station in Prijedor, and Petar Civcic, former Commander of the First Interventions Squad, and Branko Topola, a former guard in Trnopolje detention camp, with the murder of 200 male civilians on mount Vlasic on August 21, 1992.

The indictment alleges that the civilians were separated from the convoy of about 1,200 non-Serb civilians traveling from Prijedor to Travnik.

Witness K3 recalled Miroslav Paras, "late Commander of the Interventions Squad", telling him, one day prior to the convoy's departure, that he would escort the convoy and that it was necessary to "rob the convoy passengers".

"It was an order to us to take all valuables. This is what Paras said to all of us. This is what all of us who escorted the convoy did. We were given an order to search everyone and take their valuables. Later on I heard that Paras was dissatisfied because he supposed that some members had kept part of the valuables for themselves," K3 said.

The Prosecution charges the indictees with taking money, jewelry and other valuables from the civilians in the convoy, while "threatening them by saying they would kill them".

Answering the Defence's questions, the protected witness said that after the civilians had been taken out of his bus he "continued to the final destination", adding that he did not see any of the indictees on his arrival.

"Later I saw all members of the Interventions Squad in a coffee shop, where we all met. I do not remember everything that happened there, as I was sick of all that. I remember them speaking about what had happened. I felt really sick," K3 said.

The next hearing is due to take place on February 19 this year, when protected witness KA1 will testify for the Prosecution.
