Week Ahead: Bugojno Crimes Trial Due to Begin

25 December 2009  On Monday, December 28 the trial of Alija Osmic, who is charged with war crimes committed in Bugojno area, is due to begin.

Osmic, former member of the Military Police Squad with the 307th Brigade of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is charged with participating in murder, beating and detention of Croatian civilians during the course of 1993 and 1994.

The indictment alleges that civilians were detained in basements and garages, as well as in “Marxist Center – Cloister”, “Iskra” stadium detention camp and BH Banka premises in Bugojno.

The trial of Nisvet Gasal, Musajb Kukavica, Enes Handzic and Senad Dautovic, who are charged with the same crimes, is underway before the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On Tuesday, December 29 first witnesses are scheduled to testify for the Defence of Krsto Josic at the trial for crimes committed in Kozluk area.  

Josic and Ljubo Tomic are charged, as members of the Serbian Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Army, with having killed three Bosniak civilians in Marhosi forest in the vicinity of Kozluk on June 26, 1992.

On Wednesday, December 30 the Defence will continue presenting evidence at the trial of ten people charged by the State Prosecution for helping Radovan Stankovic escape from the Penal and Correctional Facility in Foca.

Mile Krsmanovic, Miroslav Blagojevic, Zdravko Vreco, Dragan Masic, Srdjan Vilotic, Miro Prodanovic and Goran Milosevic are charged with “unprincipled service”, Brankica Davidovic and Ranka Dragicevic with forgery of documents and Ranko Stankovic, brother of the runaway convict, with “enabling a person deprived of liberty to escape”.

In May 2007 Radovan Stankovic fled from the prison in Foca, where he was serving his 20-year sentence, after he was convicted by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for crimes committed in Foca area during the 1992.
