The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina accepts a guilt admission agreement concluded between Stojan Perkovic and the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, setting the date for verdict pronouncement.
Under the Agreement, signed on December 17, Perkovic admitted guilt for crimes against humanity committed in Rogatica Municipality and agreed to be sentenced to between 10 and 14 years in prison.
"The indictee committed to give a statement to the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other investigative bodies concerning events in Rogatica, thus contributing to solving crimes committed in that area," Trial Chamber Chairwoman Mira Smajlovic said.
In addition, Perkovic committed to accept the Court's decision on payment of costs pertaining to the trial and property and legal claims, waiving his right to a trial and right to appeal the criminal and legal sanction.
The Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina charges Perkovic, former squad commander of the Republika Srpska Army, VRS, in Ladjevine village, Rogatica Municipality, under six counts, with participation in murder, disappearances and the rape of non-Serb civilians, committed in villages in the Rogatica area from June to
the end of 1992.
At this hearing the Prosecution introduced a total of 92 pieces of material evidence, on which the indictment is based. These pieces of evidence confirm the indictee's guilt admission statement.
The evidence includes records of the examination of 24 witnesses and Stojan Perkovic, as well as about 30 documents on exhumations conducted in the Rogatica area.
Miodrag Stojanovic, one of the Defence attorneys of the indictee, asked for permission to address the Court at the hearing on December 24, at which the verdict will be pronounced. He further asked if the public could be excluded from one part of his address. He told the court he would speak about "the indictee's cooperation".
