As per a motion filed by the State Prosecution, the Court ordered the suspect into custody on the grounds that if he were to remain at liberty he might disturb the public order or interfere with the course of the criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses.
As per the decision rendered by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the custody may last until January 18, 2010.
The Prosecution suspects that Goran Markovic, former Commander of a unit with the "Jahorina" Squad with the Special Police Brigade of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska, participated in the genocide committed in Srebrenica in mid July 1995.
The State Investigation and Protection Agency, SIPA, arrested the suspect on December 18 this year.
Dusko Jevic, Mendeljev Djuric and Zoran Ilic are suspected of the same crime. They have been held in custody since the end of October 2009.
The Prosecution considers that, at the time Jevic was Assistant Commander for Operational and Training Affairs and Director of the Police Training Center on Mount Jahorina, Mendeljev was Commander of the First Squad at the Center and Ilic was a member of a unit with the Training Center.
