Apply for Participation in the 1st Round of BIRN’s Balkan Cultural Cooperation Programme

BIRN – Balkan Investigative Regional Reporting Network is launching a call for ten journalists with strong interest in cultural policy and regional cooperation to participate in new regional project, funded by the Swiss Cultural Programme in the Western Balkans.

 

 

Within the course of three years, the project aims to build a pool of 30 skilled journalists from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, and Macedonia to write about common cultural policy issues contributing to the change and development of individual country policies.



The first ten-month round of the project offers:

-    Initial joint training workshop in analytical reporting, online media and internet social networking delivered by internationally recognised journalists and experts;
-    Participation in the initial regional conference where networking between journalists and cultural representatives will be strongly encouraged;
-    A study visit to one of the capitals of the participating countries; attending  a selection of cultural events;
-    Contribute one analysis per month (paid) to the prestigious BIRN’s online outlet, www.balkaninsight.com;
-    Republishing articles in the journalist’s media outlet, as well as in leading news outlets throughout the region and internationally.
-    Personal progress, through on the job training and editing with BIRN’s local and international experts;
-    Working in direct contact with colleagues from the region;
-    The opportunity to become a member of the growing network of BIRN’s analytical and investigative journalists in the Balkans after the end of the project.

BIRN will select 10 successful candidates from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia and Macedonia based on the following criteria:

-    Minimum two years of journalistic experience; strong interest in cultural development;
-    The application is supported by the editor of the media outlet for which the journalist works;
-    The applicant will have an active knowledge of English, spoken and written;

Journalists’ applications should include the following:

-    A letter of motivation with contact details;
-    A recent CV emphasising previous experience
-    A letter from the editor of the outlet the journalist is employed by (if employed), confirming their willingness to provide the journalist with the possibility to participate in the project
