14 January 2009 Another group of students from the USA visits BIRN Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A group of post-graduate students at the Law Faculty of New York University (www.law.buffalo.edu) visited the BIRN Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They had a meeting with Justice Report Editor Nidzara Ahmetasevic.
The students were interested in learning about the work of BIRN and its publication called Justice Report, as well as hearing experiences of journalists related to reporting on trials conducted before the War Crimes Chamber of the State Court and the justice reform and facing the past processes.
This visit was organized as part of a seminar on "Development and Implementation of the Rule of Law in Post-conflict Countries", with special focus on the former Yugoslav countries.
Besides Bosnia and Herzegovina, the students will also travel to Serbia and Kosovo during the course of their three-week visit to the Balkans.
The group plans on spending seven days in each of the three countries and trying to understand the complex relations in the region through meetings with non-governmental organizations, law faculties and government officials.
Justice Report is a
specialist reporting agency focusing on war crimes trials taking place before
local courts; development of the local legal system; and efforts to come to
terms with the past.
