16 May 2008 Members of the Association of Court Reporters have agreed to hold their next meeting with judicial representatives in Trebinje on May 26 and 27.
The next meeting of the Association of Court Reporters (AIS) members and the local judicial and media representatives will be held in Trebinje on May 26 and 27, 2008. This was agreed at the last AIS meeting held on Wednesday, May 14, 2008.
The
forthcoming meeting in Trebinje will be the second, out of four, meetings on
"The Transparency of District and Cantonal Courts and Prosecutions," planned for
this year.
These meetings come as a result of the project, launched by BIRN and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung early this year. The meetings aim at finding solutions for overcoming obstacles in local communities when it comes to interrelation between the media and judiciary, in order to ensure more efficient work of both parties and qualitative information sharing with the public concerning the processes conducted before local courts.
At the same time, these meetings represent an opportunity for strengthening cooperation and improving relations between the AIS and local judicial organs and expanding the cooperation with the media in local communities.
As was the case with the meetings held in Doboj, it is planned to hold separate meetings, followed by a joint meeting of journalists, judges, prosecutors and lawyers in Trebinje. This time the participants will come from Trebinje, Mostar, Foca, Bileca and Gacko area. Reporting on court processes will be discussed at these meetings.
At the AIS meeting it was decided that reporters from Nezavisne novine and the Justice Report Agency would have presentations on their past experiences related to court reporting, as well as on its objectivity, at the meeting in Trebinje. These agencies have a longstanding experience in following and reporting on trials conducted before the State Court.
Representatives of BIRN, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, as well as journalists-court reporters from Oslobodjenje, BH Radio 1, Nezavisne novine and Justice Report participated in the 17th AIS meeting.
The Association of Court Reporters was
established in 2005 in order to acquaint the public, through coordinated
activities, with the work of the Court of BiH and its Prosecution. AIS is
financially supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation as part of the BIRN BiH
project on "Media, Civil Society and War Crime
Trials."
Justice Report is a
specialist reporting agency focusing on war crimes trials taking place before
local courts; development of the local legal system; and efforts to come to
terms with the past.
